Installation

  1. First connect the solar charge controller# to the battery via a battery cable* with croc clips or rings. Wait for the controller to indicate normal operation.
  2. Place the folded 60W Masango Solar panel in position in the sun but don't open it yet. Remove the cable with which the panel is terminated from the cable pocket.
  3. Connect the extension^ cable to the cable with which the solar panel is terminated. Connect the extension cable into the solar charge controller via a pigtail cable*.
  4. Connect the load (eg. fridge or lights etc) into the solar charge controller*.
  5. Open the 60W Masango Solar panel.

# Read the solar charge controller's instructions before installing your kit.
* Remember to make sure that the black (negative) wire is fitted into the port marked negative and the red (positive) wire is fitted into the port marked positive.
^ For extensions of up to 8M use 4mm2 rip cord. For extensions of 9 to 20M use 6mm2 conductor cable.

How does thin-film work?

The thin-film solar technology that we offer converts sunlight directly into DC electricity by means of triple-junction, amorphous silicon, thin-film cells. The semi-conductor junctions are stacked on top of each other and form three different sub-cells. The bottom sub-cell absorbs the red light, the middle sub-cell absorbs the yellow/green light and the top absorbs the blue light. Several of these triple-junction cells are connected together to provide the specified output voltage.

During the manufacturing process solar material is deposited onto a tough, durable stainless steel sheet while it is fed through a series of vacuum chambers. The solar cells are laminated in flexible, weather-resistant polymers that are able to withstand harsh climates.
